*** Children In Plymouth Need Your Help! ***
Do you have an old, unused laptop gathering dust? Perhaps an older machine you've upgraded from, with older software, or slow/unreliable performance? Or a desktop type computer that you've been meaning to dispose of?
If so, please consider contacting us to donate it for recycling, to provide those students of Coombe Dean School who do not have access or have shared access only with much needed equipment for home and remote learning during the Covid-19 period. Queensgate Studios are working together with Coombe Dean to refurbish and re-purpose unwanted computers for children desperately in need of a device to access online learning.
Due to intermittent isolation and Covid-19 restrictions it is now more essential than ever that children possess a device capable of accessing their learning from home. Currently hundreds of children either have either limited or no access to devices.
Ideally we are seeking laptop computers from 2009 or newer:
- with a working screen and keyboard
- that switch on/power up with some indication of life on the screen
- devices with problems are OK, eg. slow, unreliable or minor faults, dead battery, lost passwords or whose operating system (usually Windows) may fail to start
Next Steps
If you think you can help, we'll need some information about the machine to assess suitability.
With laptops, a photo of the underside showing the model codes etc. would be a great start, but if you happen to know any additional specification (such as memory, processor type or hard disk size, etc.) that would be useful too.
With desktops, branded machines will usually have some kind of sticker on the side or the rear of the tower / system unit with model codes and additional information. With unbranded (or hand-built) machines any information you could provide about the specification would be a good starting point.
Whether or not you think your device is suitable, please email us photos and any other relevant information about the device, together with your name and contact details and we will get in touch.

Your Personal Information
Any equipment we receive will have its storage components (hard drive, SSD etc.) securely and completely wiped as part of the refurbishment process. Any operating system, installed programs and personal data will be irretrievably lost before machines are passed on to the school for distribution to students and their families. Please make sure you are happy for us to do this before bringing the machine to us.
Collection / Delivery
Items can be delivered to Coombe Dean School in a Covid-safe manner and by prior arrangement. Alternatively please contact us and we will try to arrange a collection if possible.
We'll keep a record of machines we've received, and may request further confirmation before we begin the refurbishment process.
